P0098 – Intake Air Temperature Sensor 2 Circuit High

Description

The P0098 trouble code indicates that the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected a high voltage signal from the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor 2 circuit. The sensor provides air temperature information to the ECM to help control fuel injection, ignition timing, and engine performance.

Common Causes

Faulty IAT Sensor 2, open circuit in wiring, poor electrical connection, damaged connector, corrosion at terminals, signal wire short to voltage, or a faulty ECM (rare).

Symptoms

Check Engine Light ON, poor fuel economy, rough idle, reduced engine performance, hesitation during acceleration, and incorrect intake air temperature readings.

Monitor Intake Air Temperature Sensor 2 with a scan tool. A reading that is extremely high (for example above normal ambient temperature) may indicate an open circuit or a signal wire short to voltage. Compare the reading with the actual outside temperature and other temperature sensors.
