How to Diagnose

1. Visual Inspection

  • Check coolant level.

2. Live Data Test (Autel)

  • Open Diagnosis → Engine → Live Data.
  • Select Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT).
  • With a cold engine, the ECT reading should be close to ambient temperature.
  • If the scan tool displays approximately -40°C, suspect an open circuit.
  • If it displays approximately 140°C or higher with a cold engine, suspect a short circuit. 1

4. Smoke Test (If Applicable)

A smoke test is generally not required for P0115. However, if coolant service or intake repairs were recently performed and a vacuum leak is suspected, a smoke test can help identify intake leaks that may affect engine operation.
