Lambda (λ) is a key parameter in modern OBD2 diagnostics that indicates the air-fuel ratio relative to the ideal (stoichiometric) mixture. It is commonly displayed in Live Data on vehicles equipped with wideband Air/Fuel Ratio (AFR) sensors.
Lambda is the ratio between the actual air-fuel mixture and the ideal stoichiometric air-fuel mixture required for complete combustion.
For gasoline engines, the ideal stoichiometric ratio is approximately 14.7:1, which corresponds to a Lambda value of 1.00.
