Function of Yaw Rate Sensor
The Yaw Rate Sensor measures how fast the vehicle is rotating during cornering. This data is sent to the ECU and compared with steering input and wheel speed data to maintain stability.
How YRS Works in ESC System
Yaw rate data is combined with information from the Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) and wheel speed sensors. If the vehicle starts to skid or lose control, the ESC system reacts by applying braking force to individual wheels.

Typical Voltage Values

- CAN systems: Signal is transmitted digitally through CAN High and CAN Low instead of a single analog output.
Diagnostic Tip
Use a scan tool capable of displaying live data to monitor the Yaw Rate value while carefully turning the vehicle. The reading should change smoothly without sudden spikes or dropouts. If the value remains fixed or is implausible, inspect the power supply, ground circuit, wiring, connectors, and the ABS/ESC control module before replacing the sensor.
