P0089 – Fuel Pressure Regulator Performance 1
Description
The P0089 trouble code indicates that the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected a performance problem with the fuel pressure regulator control system. The ECM monitors fuel pressure and compares the actual pressure with the desired pressure to ensure correct fuel delivery.
Common Causes
- Faulty fuel pressure regulator.
- Faulty fuel pressure sensor.
- Weak or failing fuel pump.
- Restricted fuel filter.
- Blocked fuel line.
- Electrical problems in the fuel pressure control circuit.
- Dirty or contaminated fuel.
Symptoms
- Check Engine Light ON.
- Hard starting.
- Engine hesitation.
- Loss of power.
- Rough idle.
- Poor fuel economy.

Estimated Repair Cost
Typical repair cost ranges from $100 - $800, depending on whether the problem requires a sensor, regulator, fuel pump, or wiring repair.
Severity
High. Incorrect fuel pressure can cause poor engine performance, stalling, and possible damage to fuel system components. Diagnosis should be done as soon as possible.
Recommended Fix
Check fuel pressure readings, inspect the fuel pressure regulator and sensor, test fuel pump operation, inspect wiring and connectors, replace faulty parts, clear the trouble code, and verify the repair.
