P0069 – Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) / Barometric Pressure (BARO) Correlation

The P0069 diagnostic trouble code indicates that the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected an incorrect correlation between the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor and the Barometric Pressure (BARO) sensor signals.

During engine operation, the ECM compares the MAP sensor reading with the atmospheric pressure (BARO). If the difference between these values is outside the expected range, the ECM stores the P0069 code and illuminates the Check Engine Light.

Common Symptoms

  • Check Engine Light ON
  • Hard starting
  • Rough idle
  • Poor engine performance
  • Reduced fuel economy
  • Engine hesitation during acceleration

Common Causes

  • Faulty MAP sensor
  • Faulty BARO sensor (or BARO value calculated by the MAF sensor)
  • Vacuum leak in the intake manifold
  • Restricted or clogged air intake
  • Damaged wiring or poor electrical connections
  • Rarely, a faulty ECM

Basic Diagnosis

Inspect the intake system for vacuum leaks, compare MAP and BARO values using a scan tool with the engine OFF and while running, inspect the sensor wiring and connectors, and verify sensor voltage and ground according to the manufacturer's specifications.

Diagnostic Note: On some vehicles, the BARO value is calculated from the MAF sensor rather than a separate BARO sensor. Sensor configuration, expected values, and diagnostic procedures vary by manufacturer. Always refer to the factory service information before testing.
