B0076 DTC – Third Row Left Seat Belt Pretensioner Circuit Fault

The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B0076 indicates that the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) has detected a malfunction in the third-row left seat belt pretensioner circuit. The pretensioner is designed to tighten the seat belt immediately before or during a collision to improve occupant protection.

Symptoms

  • Airbag (SRS) warning light illuminated.
  • B0076 stored in the SRS control module.
  • Seat belt pretensioner disabled.
  • Possible "Service Airbag" message on the instrument cluster.

Common Causes

  • Faulty third-row left seat belt pretensioner.
  • Damaged or loose electrical connector.
  • Open or shorted wiring harness.
  • Corroded connector terminals.
  • Internal SRS module fault (rare).

Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Scan the SRS system and record all stored DTCs.
  2. Inspect the pretensioner connector for loose terminals or corrosion.
  3. Inspect the wiring harness for damage, pinched wires, or broken insulation.
  4. Check wiring continuity according to the factory wiring diagram.
  5. Repair the fault, clear DTCs, and verify that B0076 does not return.

  • Open Circuit: No
  • Short to Ground: No
  • Short to Battery: No
  • Resistance: Within manufacturer specification

Important Notes

  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait at least 10 minutes before servicing any SRS component.
  • Never apply external voltage directly to a seat belt pretensioner.
  • Wire colors, connector pin numbers, and resistance values vary by vehicle manufacturer.
